Pilea mitts – simple and well-fitting mittens with a thumb gusset.
Pilea mitts are worked in the round, seamlessly from the bottom up, in 3x1 ribbing. The thumb gusset is created by symmetrical increases, worked in stockinette stitch, and finished with 1 x 1 ribbing. Both mittens are worked in the same way.
SIZES: XS/S (M/L). To fit palm circumference: 17-18 (19-20) cm. Finished measurements: Circumference: 15 (16) cm. Length: 19 (20) cm.
GAUGE: 34 sts & 34 rnds = 10 cm, worked in the round, in 3x1 ribbing, unstretched, after blocking.
YARN: Organic Knitters, Step Corriedale Sock, (80% wool, 20% nylon), 200m/50g: 1 skein. (Shown in colour Sign of spring.)
Or 130 (150) metres of a similar yarn that knits up to the gauge. Choose an elastic, plied yarn – wool, or wool blends (like a sock yarn).
SUGGESTED NEEDLES: 2.5mm (US1.5) or any size that gives you the correct gauge – circular needles 80–100 cm for Magic Loop (or a set of DPNs).
NOTIONS: Stitch markers, stitch holder or scrap yarn, tapestry needle.
