Sunshine bonnet (English)
1 – 2 months, (2 – 6 months, 6 – 12 months, 1 – 2 years), 2 – 3 years, to fit head circumference approx. 36 – 38, (40 – 42, 44 – 46, 48 – 50), 52 cm.
21 stitches & 21 ridges (42 rows) = 10 cm worked in garter stitch using the larger needles, after blocking.
Plied, soft wool yarn with good elasticity, approx. 200–250m/100g, for example The Fibre Company Cumbria, Sandnes Alpakka Ull, Malabrigo Rios, Madelinetosh DK Twist, approx. 40, (45, 50, 55), 60 grams.
4 mm (US6) circular needles 40 cm (16”) – or a needle size that gives you the correct gauge.
3 mm (US2.5) circular needles 40 – 60 cm (16–24”) – or 1 mm smaller than the gauge needles.
Removable marker, tapestry needle.
The bonnet is worked seamless, in one piece. You´ll start working the back piece, then pick up the sts along the edges to work the side pieces.
Short rows are worked at the front, for a better fit.
The hat is finished with I-cord edges and I-cord ties.
Note: The gauge is important in this project, both the row and the stitch gauge. If you don’t want to make a proper swatch, check the gauge while knitting the back piece of the hat.
